BREATHWORK

“Listen, are you breathing just a little, and calling it a life?"
- Mary Oliver -
Breathwork is a phenomenal tool for releasing stuck physical, mental and emotional energy. Every single cell in our body requires a steady flow of oxygen to thrive.
In a modern world, which often ignores the wisdom of the body in exchange for efficiency and progress, our breath can become shortened as muscles constrict and life force is dampened in reaction to environmental and emotional stresses. Our breath is a deep and constant source of nourishment and energy for our aliveness. Consciously engaging in an active breathing practice washes and nourishes the body with life giving oxygen, stimulating both cellular and subtle body cleansing that invites a tangible inner and outer sense of ease, balance and awareness.
Learning this active 2-part pranayama based breathing practice will stimulate your senses and the innate healing intelligence of your own body. The simple focused power of your repeated inhale and exhale will increase energy flow, assist to release anxiety, invoke new bodily sensation, interrupt current physical, mental and emotional patterns and magnify your sense of SELF.
Each class is the same format, and like walking a labyrinth, the physical path remains constant, as your experience evolves and changes. No previous experience is necessary, just curiousity and a willingness to receive. Attend a monthly group practice or book a private session. Sign up to receive class notifications here.

This 3-session group breathwork series is an opportunity for those who have previously participated in the 2-part pranayama breath practice to foster a deeper, more sustained conversation with breathwork as a form of personal transformation and healing.
Each session is 2 hours long and will be experienced within the community container of a group of 4-10 participants via the Zoom platform. While each session follows the same rhythm of practice, the experience of the breath each week will be dynamic.

Each time we practice the breathwork, while the protocol is the same, the experience is always unique. Practitioners typically feel deeply relaxed and uplifted following the work. Participants are encouraged to take extra good care of themselves following the sessions; hydration, nourishing foods, journaling, rest, time in nature, salt baths, self-massage, and quiet time are all recommended during this series. INSIDE AND OUT: DEEP CONTACT WITH THE BREATH, CHEST, RIBCAGE & DIAPHRAGM
Next Class: TBA
Instructors: Brian Utting & Tanya Hughes
Location: Seattle
In this class, we partner hands-on soft tissue applications with deep experiential breathwork, giving you a truly holistic understanding of the interplay between the mechanics of breathing and the life force of the breath itself. The chest, diaphragm, and breathing mechanism are often overlooked as primary contributors to back, neck, shoulder, and visceral issues. Their level of vitality and flexibility directly reflects our ability to breathe and to take in life. These core muscles are often tight, constricting breathing, energy flow, and movement. Learn and review simple but powerful methods to release the diaphragm, sternum, ribcage, and the breath itself. These techniques are liberating and crate a noticeable opening right away, helping your clients (and you) to breathe twice as deeply with half the effort. Come prepared to go a little deeper in this class, and to push and explore your edges a bit.
CE Hours: 8
Location: Taj Yoga - Seattle, WA
Tuition: $160 if registered by March 31st, $180 thereafter.
Registration: Send a non-refundable $60 deposit check made out to PNWSM, 7511- 25th Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98117. Please send the deposit only, and not the full amount. The balance is due to the presenters at class.
BREATHWORK FOR BODYWORKERS
Next class, TBA.
Hands-on therapy requires mental and physical rigor, focus, and compassion. A joyful and easy experience of this balancing act requires a commitment to consistent self-care of not just the physical body, but our mental and emotional body. Holistic healers often put their own health on the "back burner" to be more available for their clients' needs and in the process become run down, exhausted and stressed by the very work that used to inspire-- eventually leaving both client and practitioner less than served.
Reclaim your vitality, just by breathing in and breathing out. The quality of our life force is directly influenced by our ability to fully breathe and fully express. In times of stress and exhaustion the breath becomes restricted and shallow, constricting our life force. Our breath is a deep and constant source of nourishment for all of our cells-- it not only keeps us alive, but connects us to every living thing.
Learn a simple and effective breathing practice to liberate your body of outdated emotional baggage and tune up your physical and energetic body. This practice will help bring you back into the present moment, and support a more clear and focused relationship with yourself, your work and your clients.
We will explore:
-
A 2-part pranayama based breathing practice
-
The mental and physiological benefits of the breath
-
Developing a personal self-care breathing practice
This 3 hour CE class is open to all Licensed Massage Therapists.
